You may have already heard that aerating, topdressing with compost, and overseeding are the key to taking your lawn to the next level.

Fortunately, all you have to do to make your lawn look its best is rent an aerator, wrestle it around the lawn, rent a compost spreader, buy compost or have it delivered, buy the right seed and distribute it around your yard, spread your compost evenly, rake it all in just right, and return all of the equipment in 24 hours. Sounds easy, right?

Skip the hassle, let Eco Constructors do it all for you!

How does aeration, overseeding, and topdressing contribute to a more beautiful and healthy lawn?

Aeration

Aeration allows water, air, and vital nutrients to flow easily to where it counts the most, the roots. As thatch builds up and your soil becomes compacted over time, this vital transfer becomes restricted. Aerating the soil is basically punching a series of uniform holes in your lawn, opening up your soil, and allowing it to get what it needs to thrive. This is done with a machine that few people have in the garage since aeration doesn't need to be done more than once per year.

Our team will bring our specialized equipment to your home and roll your property with our aerator creating 2-3" deep holes that are less than an inch in diameter. The roots of your turf will now have better access to water, air, and nutrients, as well as, prepare your lawn for the next step in the process to make your lawn look its very best.

Overseeding

Our team will spread new seed over the freshly topdressed compost and lightly mix it together. Overseeding is important for your lawn since it helps to supplement thin areas and thicken existing turf. The thicker and healthier your lawn is, the more resistant it is to pests and diseases. Thin areas offer little defense to weed seeds spread by the wind and wildlife. As these weeds mature, they, spread their own seeds to the rest of your lawn if left untreated. So, as you can see, the best weed management practice you can employ is a thick and healthy lawn!

Topdressing with Compost

By now you have probably heard of this amazing soil amendment. Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed over time (3-6 months), retaining the vital nutrients your lawn needs to grow, recovered from the materials used to make the compost like landscaping and food waste.

In addition to all the amazing benefits of compost listed below, the process used to create compost dramatically reduces waste in our landfills through organic recycling. This helps reduce the greenhouse gas emissions inherent to landfill decomposition. Composting is done above ground and is an aerobic process that doesn't produce greenhouse gases. As a result, you will not only be improving your lawn, but you'll be helping to save the planet!

Benefits of Compost:

  • Enhances water retention - water your lawn less

  • Helps to suppress plant diseases and pests - reduces the use of pesticides

  • Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers - saves money

  • Enriches the soil, introducing beneficial microbes - enhances your soil health

  • Reduces methane emissions from landfills - benefits our environment
